Understanding Uganda’s Whistleblower Protections

This course introduces all staff in Uganda to the Whistleblowers Protection Act, 2010, explaining what whistleblowing is, what protections the law provides, how to make a protected disclosure, and what to do if you experience retaliation.

Whistleblowing is one of the most powerful tools available to organisations and society for detecting wrongdoing, preventing harm, and fostering a culture of integrity and accountability. In Uganda, the Whistleblowers Protection Act, 2010 establishes a legal framework that encourages individuals to come forward with information about improper conduct, and provides meaningful protections for those who do so in good faith.

This course has been designed for all members of staff across Ugandan organisations. It explains the key provisions of the Whistleblowers Protection Act, 2010 in plain language, outlines the types of disclosures that attract legal protection, describes the processes for making a protected disclosure, and sets out the protections available against retaliation. It also clarifies the responsibilities your organisation has under the law and what you can do if you believe your rights have been breached.

By completing this course, you will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to recognise reportable conduct, understand your legal rights, and use the disclosure mechanisms available to you — helping to build a workplace where honesty, transparency, and ethical behaviour are valued and protected.
