Swiss Workplace Ethics: Navigating Reporting & Confidentiality
This course equips all staff in Swiss organisations with the knowledge and confidence to recognise workplace misconduct, understand their reporting obligations, and navigate confidentiality requirements under Swiss law, including the Swiss Code of Obligations and the Federal Act on Data Protection.
Ethical workplaces do not emerge by chance — they are built through informed, empowered employees who understand their rights and responsibilities. This course, designed for all staff working within Swiss organisations, provides a clear and practical foundation in workplace ethics, internal reporting mechanisms, and the legal framework that governs whistleblowing and data confidentiality in Switzerland. Whether you are a frontline employee, an administrator, or a specialist, the principles covered here apply to you.
Switzerland's approach to workplace reporting is shaped by a combination of private law obligations under the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR) and data protection requirements under the Federal Act on Data Protection (DSG/nDSG, fully revised and in force since 1 September 2023). Unlike some jurisdictions, Switzerland does not yet have a single, comprehensive whistleblower protection statute, making it essential that employees understand how existing legal frameworks interact to both protect reporters and impose duties of confidentiality. This course explains those frameworks in accessible, practical terms.
This is the all-staff course in a two-course set developed for Swiss organisations. A companion course for managers and compliance officers covers advanced topics including investigation procedures, regulatory engagement, and governance obligations. Upon completing this course, you will be able to identify reportable concerns, use your organisation's reporting channels with confidence, and understand how your personal data — and that of others — is protected throughout the reporting process.
