PIDA Compliance: Understanding Whistleblowing in the UK
This course provides all staff with a clear, practical understanding of whistleblowing rights and responsibilities under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, helping employees recognise protected disclosures and understand how to raise concerns safely and effectively.
Whistleblowing is one of the most important mechanisms available to employees for exposing wrongdoing, protecting the public, and maintaining integrity within organisations. This course has been designed for all staff working within organisations in England and Wales and provides a thorough grounding in the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA), the principal legislation governing whistleblowing protections in the UK. Whether you have never raised a concern before or simply want to understand your rights more clearly, this course will equip you with the knowledge you need to act with confidence.
Throughout this course, you will learn what qualifies as a protected disclosure, who is entitled to protection under PIDA, and the correct channels through which concerns should be raised. You will also explore the protections afforded to whistleblowers against detriment and dismissal, and what to do if you believe those protections have been breached. Real-world scenarios and practical guidance are woven throughout to help you apply your learning directly to your working environment.
This course forms part of a two-course set covering whistleblowing compliance in England and Wales. This course is intended for all staff and focuses on individual rights, responsibilities, and the process of raising concerns. A companion course for managers and designated persons covers the organisational obligations, investigation procedures, and governance requirements that complement the content here. Together, both courses support a culture of openness, accountability, and lawful conduct across your organisation.
