Managing Internal Reporting Channels Under Irish Law

Managing Internal Reporting Channels Under Irish Law

A practical compliance course for managers and compliance teams on establishing, operating and maintaining internal whistleblowing channels in accordance with the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022 and related Irish legal obligations.

This course is designed for managers, HR professionals and compliance teams operating within Irish organisations who are responsible for receiving, handling and responding to protected disclosures. Building on the foundational awareness provided in the companion employee-facing course, this programme delivers a thorough grounding in the obligations imposed by the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022, which transposed the EU Whistleblowing Directive (2019/1937) into Irish law and significantly expanded the scope and requirements of the original Protected Disclosures Act 2014.

Participants will examine the legal framework governing internal reporting channels, including mandatory procedural requirements, designated person obligations, confidentiality duties, record-keeping standards and the prohibition on retaliation. The course addresses how organisations must receive, acknowledge, follow up and provide feedback on reports, and how compliance teams can design robust policies and procedures that satisfy both legal requirements and best practice governance standards. Practical scenarios and worked examples are woven throughout to reinforce application of the law in real organisational contexts.

On completion, managers and compliance professionals will be equipped to fulfil their statutory duties, protect reporting workers from penalisation, engage constructively with the Office of the Protected Disclosures Commissioner and other prescribed persons, and foster a workplace culture in which concerns can be raised safely and effectively. This course forms the second of a two-course set for Ireland; the first course provides general awareness training for all employees.
