Irish Workplace Rights: The Protected Disclosures Act
This course introduces all staff in Ireland to their rights and responsibilities under the Protected Disclosures Acts 2014–2022, explaining how to recognise wrongdoing, how to raise a concern safely, and what protections apply to those who speak up.
Every person working in Ireland has the right to raise concerns about wrongdoing in the workplace without fear of retaliation. The Protected Disclosures Act 2014, as significantly strengthened by the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022, creates a comprehensive legal framework that protects workers who report suspected wrongdoing — commonly referred to as whistleblowers. This course has been designed to ensure that all members of staff understand what that framework means for them in practical, everyday terms.
Throughout this course you will learn what qualifies as a protected disclosure, which reporting channels are available to you, what protections the law affords you if you make a report, and what your organisation is required to do in response. The course draws directly on Irish legislation and the guidance issued by the Office of the Protected Disclosures Commissioner and relevant regulatory bodies, ensuring that every element of the training reflects current legal obligations in Ireland.
This is the All Staff course in a two-course set for Irish organisations. A companion course provides deeper guidance for managers and designated persons who have specific responsibilities for receiving, acknowledging, and following up on disclosures. Completing this course will help you feel confident that you know how to speak up safely, and that your organisation is committed to a culture of openness, accountability, and integrity.
