Investigating Notifications & Employer Duties Under Norwegian Law
A specialist course for managers and compliance teams covering employer obligations when receiving whistleblowing notifications, conducting investigations, and protecting notifiers under Chapter 2A of the Norwegian Working Environment Act.
This course is the second in a two-part series designed for Norwegian organisations. Where the first course introduces employees to their rights as notifiers, this course equips managers, HR professionals, and compliance teams with the practical and legal knowledge required to handle notifications responsibly, lawfully, and effectively. It draws directly on Chapter 2A of the Norwegian Working Environment Act (arbeidsmiljøloven), the regulations issued under it, and the guidance published by the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet).
Participants will learn how to receive and assess notifications of censurable conditions, plan and conduct fair investigations, fulfil mandatory feedback obligations to notifiers, and protect notifying employees from retaliation. The course also addresses employer duties when notifications involve senior personnel or conflicts of interest, and explains the consequences of non-compliance, including enforcement action by Arbeidstilsynet and potential liability under the Working Environment Act.
By the end of this course, managers and compliance professionals will be able to apply a structured, legally compliant approach to every stage of the notification lifecycle — from initial receipt through to resolution and record-keeping — thereby fostering a culture of openness and accountability consistent with Norwegian law and international best practice.
